About the Department & Team:


The Liberty Mutual Insurance Europe (LMIE) Risk Management (RM) team is part of the broader GRSI RM team and is a key contributor to the GRSI's internal control framework within the second line of defence.

The role and responsibilities of the LMIE / GRSI RM team are:


  • Develop and implement a RM strategy to support achievement of GRSI's corporate objectives, strategy and business plan.
  • Develop and embed an effective RM framework which allows the identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring and reporting of risk and measures the management of those exposures to a level consistent with the GRSI's risk appetite.
  • Assist the Board and management in their responsibility to understand and monitor the risks faced by the business, and thereby help LMIE/ GRSI meet the expectations of its regulators.
  • Help to ensure stakeholder's confidence in GRSI's systems of governance thereby safeguarding and aligning the interest of stakeholders including regulators and Liberty Mutual Group (LMG) with GRSI's corporate objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Risk_ _Strategy_ _and_ _Appetite_
  • Support the RM team in defining and implementing a comprehensive Risk Strategy for GRSI. Deliver the annual Risk Plan and the activities of the Risk Management function, including thematic reviews on key risk issues.
  • Maintain a clear risk appetite framework for GRSI. Ensure risk appetites are considered and embedded in decision making. To regularly report to senior management on the risk profile against appetite, advising on risk mitigation strategies where required.
  • Ensure there is an effective risk culture across the company.
  • Risk Framework, Processes and Systems_
  • Maintain the risk identification and assessment process, ensuring the Risk Management function and management have a clear and continuous view of the risk exposure of the organisation.
  • Work closely with business functions to monitor risk exposures and advise on risk mitigation strategies where required. This will include partnering with the business to understand the impact of new projects and initiatives.
  • Support key RM activities including internal model validation, stress and scenario testing and reverse stress testing.
  • Support the identification and assessment of emerging risks in conjunction with ERM, advising management on risk mitigation strategies where required.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive management reporting, including use of risk management systems and data visualisation tools.
  • Ensure GRSI operates within risk appetites.
  • Identify key areas of risk for thematic review and support technical risk assurance projects, drawing on external consulting partners where required.
  • To help develop and evolve a riskbased plan for assurance of controls across the company.
  • Reporting and Governance_
  • Support the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) process for GRSI, producing annual ORSA reports for Board approval.
  • Assist in the production of all regular and ad hoc reporting from the Risk Management function, including to the Risk Management Committee, Board, regulators, and other key stakeholders, including branches.
  • Facilitate and ensure effective risk governance, including the operation of various risk committees as required.

  • Take appropriate responsibility for legal entity management oversight to enable the effective response to regulatory enquiry and challenge.
