The Research Group for Building Energy and Building Services Engineering, led by Prof.

Dr Frank Scholzen, embedded in the Department of Engineering of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine, is looking for a
Doctoral researcher (PhD student) in Engineering Science.



Your Role...


A PhD position in engineering is available at the Research Group for Building Energy and Building Services Engineering, led by Prof.

Dr Frank Scholzen.

The PhD Topic will aim to answer questions of demand and supply of thermal energy for buildings in the context of the energy transition.

Numerical simulation methods shall be applied, supported by field or lab data or measurements campaigns.


The doctoral student will be a member of the Doctoral School for Science and Engineering (DSSE) in the doctoral programme in Engineering Sciences aiming to provide interdisciplinary and internationally competitive research training.


Your Mission

  • Research in the field of
    Energy efficiency and Heat Supply of Buildings:
  • Strengthen cooperation with external project partners
  • Disseminate results through scientific publications in journals and conferences
  • Assist in teaching activities (12 h course per week or similar workload for supervision of students work)

What we expect from you

  • Master's degree in Engineering (Energy, Mechanical, Civil, or similar)
  • Solid background in Technical Building Services and Building Energy aspects
  • Language: High Level of English; in addition, German or French is considered as an asset
